Northern Bowls League

2015 Winners

Congratulations go to the 2015 winners of the

various competitions within the Northern Bowls League.

Cramlington Bowling Club won the Division Two League.

David Smith was the winner of the Singles Competition and

Bill Turnbull and David Wilkinson were the winners of

the Pairs Competition.

Well done to all participants!

Closing Jumbles

There was an excellent turnout for 

the Closing Jumbles which were held on

Saturday 29 August 2015.

 

The winners of the Jumbles Competition were:

First: Tony Leightley

Second: Bob Long

Cramlington Bowling Club

 

Funding from

Northumberland County Council

Cramlington Bowling Club has received funding from

Northumberland County Council

for the purchase of a Storage Shed to house bowling equipment at the Club.

Councillor Alan Hepple attended the Club on Friday 14 August 2015,

to officially hand the Storage Shed over.

The Club would like to extend Special thanks to

Councillors Alan Hepple and Ian Swithenbank

who were instrumental in procuring funds to enable storage facilities

to be purchased for the Club.

Thanks also to members of the Cramlington Bowling Club

for their efforts in painting the shed and

erecting internal shelves to house equipment.

3 BOWL OPEN TRIPLES

Saturday 8 August 2015

A very warm, sunny day ensured there were plenty of spectators at

the 3 Bowl Open Triples Competition held at Ann Welfare

on Saturday 8 August 2015.

There was a full complement of rinks with 24 sets of triples

from Cramlington Bowling Club and other Clubs from around the region.

As usual, there was stiff competition amongst the teams

with some excellent bowling throughout the day.

Once again, a team from Newsham & New Delaval Bowling Club

emerged as the eventual winners.

Congratulations go to Stephen Robson, Aaron Robson, and Alan Cavner,

who were presented with the Open Triples Trophy, a crystal claret jug,

by the Club's President, Colin Bell.

Many thanks to Brian Hardcastle who donated the prize money

in memory of his Wife, Councillor Winnie Lowes.

The prize money was shared between the winning team, the runners-up,

and also the two losing semi-finalists.

Special thanks also go to members of the Committee who organised the day,

to everyone who donated the raffle prizes,

and to the ladies for providing the excellent refreshments throughout the day.

Northern Bowls League Pairs Competition

Tuesday 4 August 2015

The Northern Bowls League Co-operative Funeral Care Pairs Competition

was held on Tuesday 4 August at Cowpen & Crofton Bowling Club.

Bill Turnbull and David Wilkinson, from Cramlington Bowling Club,

emerged as the winners with

Aaron Robson and Alan Cavner, from Newsham & New Delaval Bowling Club,

being the runners-up.

Congratulations Bill and David for winning a very close fought match

with the scores of 5 shots against Aaron and Alan's 4 shots.

As mentioned in the July Newsletter, 

Cramlington Bowling Club has received funding from

Northumberland County Council

for the purchase of a Storage Shed to house bowling equipment at the Club.

If anyone is interested in attending,

the proposed 'Photo Shoot' will take place on

Friday 14 August 2015, at 1.00pm,

when councillors will officially hand over the Storage Shed.

Northumberland County Jubilee Cup

Stage Three

FINAL

St George's Bowling Club, Morpeth

Sunday 12 July 2015

1.30pm

 

In the Final of the County Jubilee Cup,

played at St George's Bowling Club on Sunday 12 July,

Cramlington 'B' Team played against

Fossway, North Shields West End, and Seaton Sluice.

 

The eventual winners were North Shields West End, with Fossway coming second,

Cramlington 'B' third, and Seaton Sluice fourth.

 

Congratulations go to North Shields West End,

with commiserations to Cramlington 'B' Team who did well to get to the final.

In Round 5 of the County Pairs Championship

John Sutherland and Arthur Allonby were, once again, drawn at Home.

 

Their opponents were R Train and J Harthen from Gosforth Bowling Club.

 

Unfortunately, victory was not to be theirs this time, with the scores of:-

John and Arthur: 8 shots - Dickie and John: 23 shots.

 

Commiserations John and Arthur,

but well done on getting this far in the competition.

County Pairs Championship against

David Crozier and Partner from Ponteland Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was:

John and Arthur: 20 shots - David and Partner: 14 shots.

 

Well done John and Arthur and best of luck for the next round

which will be played at Home on

Thursday 2 July 2015

against R Train and Partner from Gosforth Bowling Club.

Thursday 4 June 2015

 

Three teams from Cramlington Bowling Club were involved in Round 2

of the County Pairs Competition,

Arthur Allonby and John Sutherland were once again drawn away.

 

They played against K Sanders and Partner from Hexham House Bowling Club.

The result of that game was:

K Sanders and Partner - 11 shots;   Arthur and John - 22 shots.

 

Congratulations Arthur and John and Good Luck for 18 June when you are at home

to P Ging and Partner from Backworth Bowling Club.

Tony Fantozzi and Norman Reeves were also drawn away

and played their game at Gosforth Bowling Club

against M McGreevy and Partner.

 

The result of that game was:

M McGreevy and Partner - 22 shots; Tony and Norman - 17 shots.

Colin Brown and Bill Turnbull were at Home

against R Train and Partner from Gosforth Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was:

Colin and Bill - 9 shots;  R Train and Partner - 27 shots.

Monday 1 June 2015

 

In the first round of the County Singles Championship,

John Sutherland was drawn Away against G York from Fossway Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was:

John: 13 shots - G York - 21 shots.

Commiserations John, better luck next year!

 

Also in the First Round, Tony Fantozzi's result was a Walk Over

against D Ross from Backworth Bowling Club.

 

Tony will be at Home against C Armstrong from Collingwood Bowling Club

on Monday 8 June.

 

 

 

May 2015

County Champion of Champions

Played on Saturday 30 May 2015

In the second round of the Champion of Champions competition

David Smith, who had a Bye in the first round,

played at Home against B Turner from Cowpen and Crofton Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was 16 shots to David

against his opponent's 21  shots.

 

Commiserations David, a valiant attempt,

but well done for getting this far in the competition!



County Fours Championship

Played on Friday 29 May 2015

 

In the second round of the County Fours Championship,

Tony Fantozzi, Billy Swann, Bob Harrison and Norman Reeves

played at High Heaton against B Nicol and his team.

 

The final score was:

High Heaton: 20 shots - Cramlington: 11 shots.

 

Commiserations Tony, Billy, Bob and Norman: better luck next year!

 



 

County Pairs Championship

 Played on Thursday 28 May 2015

 

Cramlington Bowling Club fielded two teams in the

Northumberland County Pairs Championship

on Thursday 28 May 2015.

 

Colin Brown and Bill Turnbull were at Home against

L Aitchison and team mate from Gosforth Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was Cramlington: 24 shots - Gosforth: 21 shots.

 

In the other game, Arthur Allonby and John Sutherland were away

to K Wylie and his team mate from Cowpen and Crofton Bowling Club.

 

The result of that game was Cramlington: 20 shots - Cowpen and Crofton: 19 shots.

Congratulations Colin and Bill, and also Arthur and John.

 

Good luck in the next round which takes place on Thursday 4 June 2015.



County Two Bowls Singles Championship

Played on Monday 25 May 2015

 

In the Fourth round of the County Two Bowls Singles Championship,

John Sutherland played away against Stephen Taws from Portland Bowling Club,

on Monday 25 May 2015.

 

The result of that game was: John - 4 and Stephen - 15.

County Triples Championship

Played on Friday 22 May 2015

 

In the County Triples Championship, which took place on Friday 22 May,

David Wilkinson, Maurice White and Tony Leightley were drawn away

to Wooler against B Davidson and his team mates.

 

The result of that game was: Cramlington 6 shots and Wooler 23 shots.

Spring Open Jumbles

Saturday 2 May 2015

 

There was a good turnout for the Opening Jumbles for the start of the 2015 season.

In all 27 members were involved in a very pleasant afternoon's bowling.

 

The results of the game are as follows:

Winner: Tony Leightley - +25 shots

Runner Up: John Harrison - +14 shots

Fred Butler

During the closed season we were sorry to learn of the death

of one of our members, Fred Butler,
