Northern Counties Championships

Triples Competition

Saturday 6 September 2014

at Kirkbride Bowling Club, Cumbria

 

The Northumberland Triples Champions,

Tony Fantozzi, David Wilkinson and Tony Leightley,

from Cramlington Bowling Club,

represented the County at the

Northern Counties Triples Competition 

on Saturday 6 Septmber at Kirkbride Bowling Club, Cumbria.

 

The team had a bye in the first round and went straight

into the semi-finals, playing against Cumbria.

Despite a valiant effort the team lost out to Cumbria

with a score of  9 shots to Northumberland and 19 shots to Cumbria.

Crawford Smith Cup Final

Wednesday 3 September 2014

 

The Crawford Smith Final was played at Denton Burn Bowling Club

on Wednesday 3 September 2014.

 

The two teams involved in the Final were Cramlington and Westerhope.

 

The result of the game was

Cramlington 97 shots and Westerhope 53 shots.

 

Congratulations Cramlington on winning the Cup

There was an excellent turnout for the

End of Season Competition at the Club,

and the good weather

made for a very pleasant afternoon of bowling.

with several supporters in attendance cheering the players on.

National Championships

Triples Competition

Royal Leamington Spa

 

Northumberland County Triples Champions,

David Wilkinson, Tony Fantozzi and Tony Leightley,

from Cramlington Bowling Club, represented Northumberland at the

National Championship Triples Competition, which was held at

Victoria Park, Royal Leamington Spa from 20-21 August 2014.

 

Unfortunately, they were beaten in their first game against

Hertfordshire 'A' with a score of 26 shots to Herts and 2 shots to Cramlington.

 

Never mind, Dave, Tony and Tony, you did well to get this far in the competition.

Good luck when you play in the

Northern Counties Championships Competition,

which will be played at Kirkbride Bowling Club, Cumbria

on Saturday and Sunday 6 and 7 September respectively.

Cramlington Open Triples

Saturday 9 August 2014

 

The Cramlington three-bowl Open Triples Competition

took place at Ann Welfare on Saturday, 9 August 2014.

Despite the earlier forecast of approaching storms, the rain held off

and it turned out to be a very pleasant day's bowling,

which was well attended by competitors and spectators.

A total of 72 players (24 entries) took part in the 'round robin' game.

As in previous years, there was stiff competition amongst the teams

with some excellent bowling throughout the day.

The eventual winners of the competition were:

Stephen Robson, Aaron Robson, and Dean Robson, 

all from Newsham and New Delaval Bowling Club.

Congratulations to Stephen, Aaron and Dean, who were presented with

the Open Triples Trophy, a crystal claret jug, by the Club's President, Colin Bell.

Many thanks to Brian Hardcastle who donated the prize money

in memory of his Wife, Councillor Winnie Lowes.

The prize money was shared between the winning team, the runners-up,

and also the two losing semi-finalists.

Special thanks also go to members of the Committee who organised the day,

to everyone who donated the raffle prizes,

and to the ladies for providing the excellent refreshments throughout the day.

The Final of the Blyth Valley Singles Competition was played

at Cowpen Bowling Club on Wednesday 6 August 2014.

 

The result of the game was Ron Brown, Alexander Park Bowling Club - 6 shots,

David Melling, Cramlington Bowling Club - 5 shots.

 

Congratulations Ron on winning the Tom Entwistle Trophy.

Challenge Cup Final

Saturday 26 July 2014

The Final of the County Challenge Cup Competition took place at

Gosforth Bowling Club on Saturday 26 July 2014.

The six clubs involved in the final were:

Rothbury, Cramlington, Portland, Gosforth, Walker, and Fossway.

 

Despite it being a very hot, sunny day, some excellent bowling

was seen amongst all of the participating clubs.

 

Gosforth emerged the eventual winners,

with Cramlington coming in as very worthy runners up.

Congratulations go to Gosforth, but well done Cramlington

for a very close fought game.

Sunday 20 July 2014


In the final of the County Triples Championship 

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Leightley and Tony Fantozzi,

played against Paul Ging, Stan Lant and Josh Minto

from Backworth Welfare Bowling Club.

 

In an absolutely amazing game,

the Cramlington team emerged as worthy victors,

with a score of 17 shots

against Backworth’s 11 shots.

Congratulations Dave, Tony and Tony on winning

the County Triples Championship Trophy.

Well deserved!!

met up with L Aitchison and his team from Gosforth Bowling Club.

 

Playing at Portland Bowling Club, the results of the semi-final were:

L Aitchison: 12 - D Wilkinson : 15.

In the semi-final of the Champion of Champions competition,

John Sutherland played against L Aitchison from Gosforth Bowling Club.

 

Despite his best attempts, John's score of 16 shots was not enough

to beat his opponent's score of 21 shots.

 

Commiserations John, but very well done for reaching this stage of the competition.

Round Four

Played on Saturday 5 July 2014

John Sutherland met up with S Ross from Gosforth Empire Bowling Club

in the fourth round of the

County Champion of Champions Competition.

 

Playing away at Gosforth Empire, John was the victor of this competition

with a result of 21 shots to his opponent's 15 shots.

 

Congratulations John, and good luck for the Semi-Final.

 

County Triples Championship

Round Four

Played on Sunday 4 July 2014

 

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Leightley and Tony Fantozzi, from Cramlington,

were up against J Bartlett and his team from Gosforth

in the fourth round of the County Triples Championship.

 

The Cramlington team, playing at Gosforth, emerged the victors with an

  1. score of 23 shots against Gosforth's score of 14 shots.

 

Well done, Dave, Tony and Tony; a resounding win!

2014 National Men's Senior Pairs

Wednesday 2 July 2014

at Backworth Bowling Club

 

Commiserations to Arthur Allonby and John Sutherland

after losing to Ian Brown and his team mate

from Backworth Welfare Bowling Club

in the second round of the National Men's Senior Pairs.

 

The result of that game was 7 shots to Arthur and John

and 28 shots to their opponents.

Played on Wednesday 25 June 2014

In the third round of the Champion of Champions Competition

on Wednesday 25 June, John Sutherland played against

W Drape from St Peter's Bowling Club.

Congratulations John, on winning a close fought game.

The final scores were 21 shots to John and 19 shots to Bill.

John has now reached the quarter final stage of the competition

and his next game, to be played on or before Wednesday 9 July,

will be Away against S Ross from Gosforth Empire Bowling Club.

In the next round of the Champion of Champions competition,

John Sutherland will be at Home playing against

W Drape from St Peter's Bowling Club.

The game will start at lunchtime on

Wednesday 25 June 2014.

 

 

County Singles Championship

Round Three - 23 June 2014

 

In the third round of the  County Singles Championship

John Sutherland was at Home playing against

C Coan from High Heaton Bowling Club.

 

Unfortunately, this time John's score was not good enough to beat his opponent,

with the resultant score of 17 shots to John and 21 shots to Chris.

In the third round of the County Triples Championship,

the Triples team from Cramlington,

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Fantozzi and Tony Leightley,

played at home against C Swick from Newbiggin Bowling Club.

Once again, the  Cramlington team emerged as the victors

with an excellent score of 20 shots to 6 shots.

Congratulations Dave, Tony and Tony,

and good luck for the next round on Friday 4 July,

when you are Away, playing against

J Bartlett from Gosforth Bowling Club.

Round Two - 16 June 2014

 

In Round Two of the County Singles Championship,

Tony Fantozzi and John Sutherland both played their games at Home.

 

Despite a vigorous attempt by Tony he lost to

J McKenna from Westerhope Bowling Club by 18 shots to 21 shots.

 

John fared better in his game winning against

L Aitchison from Gosforth Bowling Club by 21 shots to 18 shots.

Congratulations John and good luck for the next round of the

Singles Championship which will be played on Monday 23 June.

 

National Men's Senior Pairs

Played 15 June 2014

 

In the preliminary round of the National Men's Senior Pairs,

Arthur Allonby and John Sutherland, playing at Home emerged the victors

against J Harrison and C Coan from High Heaton Bowling Club,

with a score of 23 shots to 16 shots.

and good luck in the next round when you meet up with

Ian Brown and his partner from Backworth Bowling Club.

 

County Singles Championship

Round One - 9 June 2014

 

Round One of the County Singles Championship saw

Tony Fantozzi and John Sutherland playing Away games.

 

Both players had a resounding result:

Tony's score was 21 shots against

L Jones from Westerhope Community Bowling Club who scored 2 shots.

 

John's score was 21 shots against

S Welsh from Fossway Bowling Club who scored 8 shots.

 

Congratulations Tony and John and good luck in

Round Two of the Championship on Monday 16 June.

 

 

Northumberland Challenge Cup

Played at Hexham Elvaston

on Saturday 7 June 2014

 

Congratulations to the Cramlington Team,

Arthur Allonby, Dave Wilkinson, Colin Taylor, Bernie O'Neil,

John Sutherland, Bill Gilbert, Phil Ging, and David Smith,

who emerged the winners

at the Northumberland Challenge Cup Semi-finals at Hexham Elvaston Bowling Club

on Saturday 7 June 2014.

 

They played against Hexham Elvaston, Benfield, Rockcliffe, and Haltwhistle.

Unfortunately, Morpeth St George's withdrew from the competition.

 

The final score was: played 4, won 4 = 8 points

Cramlington now go forward to the Final, which will be played at

Alnwick Bowling Club on

Saturday 26 July at 10.30am

the Triples team from Cramlington,

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Fantozzi and Tony Leightley,

played at home against B Duell from Gosforth Bowling Club.

The Cramlington team emerged as the victors

with a score of 16 shots to 13 shots.

and good luck for the next round on Friday 20 June,

when you are at Home again, playing against

C Swick from Newbiggin Bowling Club.

who competed in the County Pairs Championship on Thursday 5 June.

 

All teams played Away and the results were as follows:

played at Home against R Iley from Crawford Park.

The result of that game was 21 shots to John

against his opponent's 9 shots.

Friday 30 May 2014

In the second round of the County Fours Championship,

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Fantozzi, Tony Leightley and Bill Gilbert

played at Gosforth against John Harthen and his team.

 

Despite a vigorous effort the Cramlington team weren't able to

pull off a win this time. The final score was:

Gosforth 20 shots - Cramlington 16 shots.

 

Commiserations Dave, Tony, Tony and Bill, for a while it

looked as though you were going to be the victors!

 

 

County Triples Championship

Friday 23 May 2014

 

Cramlington Bowling Club fielded two teams for the County Triples Championship,

which took place on Friday 23 May.

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Leightley and Tony Fantozzi played at Home

against K Sanders' team from Hexham.

The result of that game was Cramlington 18 shots and Hexham 15 shots.

Congratulations Dave, Tony and Tony and good luck in your next round

when you play at Home against B Duell from Gosforth on 6 June 2014.

 

In the other game, Colin Brown, Bill Gilbert and Bill Turnbull took on

J Slassor's team at their Home ground, Walker.

Despite a valiant effort, they were beaten by the narrowest of margins.

The result for that game was Cramlington 17 shots and Walker 18 shots. 

 

 

 

NOTICE

New Club Shirts and Jackets

We have negotiated a special price with our supplier for new club shirts and jackets. However, this is conditional upon meeting a minimum order of twenty polo shirts.

Usually priced at £15, we are able to buy the shirts at £12 each if we buy twenty or more.  The fleeced jackets will be £19.80. Both items, in white, will have an embroidered club badge and will be personalised with the player’s name.

If you are interested in purchasing either or both items please contact Bob Harrison to discuss your order.  Bob has put a list on the notice board in the clubhouse with his telephone details or, if you would like him to contact you, please write your name and contact details on the list and he will be in touch as soon as he can.

Bob has samples of each garment so that you can check the quality and size prior to ordering.  He is hoping to place an order early next week (possibly 27 May).

 

County Two Woods Singles Championship

Played on Sunday 18 May 2014

In the second round of the County Two Bowls Championship, 

John Sutherland played at Home against Brian Houghton from Gosforth.

Despite a valiant effort by John he was narrowly beaten by Brian

with the resulting score:  John - 13 shots; Brian - 15 shots.

 

 

County Fours Championship

Played on Friday 16 May 2014

Dave Wilkinson, Tony Fantozzi, Tony Leightley and Bill Gilbert were at home

for the first round of the County Fours Championship.

They played against R Stevens and his team  from North Shields West End.

The final score was Cramlington 24 shots - North Shields West End 18 shots.

on 30 May when you play away to J Harthen (Gosforth)

John Sutherland played against George Batey in the

first round of the County Two Bowls.

The game was played early as John

will be on holiday in the near future.

John emerged the victor with a score of 18 shots

against George's 8 shots.

when you play Brian Houghton at home.

Despite the changeable weather (rain one minute, sunshine the next)

there was a good turnout for the Opening Jumbles for the start of the season.

In all 25 members turned out for a very pleasant afternoon.
